Success! Silent Auction Completed

Thank you so much to everyone who visited the NPWA blog, bid on an item and donated. With bids and donations to this auction we raised $351! This money is going directly to one of our members and her husband who was recently shot in the line of duty. He is expected to make a full recovery, though, which is excellent news.

If you have won an item, please make sure to contact Helen at hallienoves@gmail.com. Some winning bidders didn't leave an email address with their winning bid so we can't get a hold of you!

We appreciate all of your work to spread the news about our fundraising efforts. This silent auction wouldn't have been successful without you. Thank you!

CLOSED LOST Season 1 DVDs

Want to see what all the hype is about? Bid on the complete first season of Lost!

Along with Desperate Housewives, Lost was one of the two breakout shows in the fall of 2004. Mixing suspense and action with a sci-fi twist, it began with a thrilling pilot episode in which a jetliner traveling from Australia to Los Angeles crashes, leaving 48 survivors on an unidentified island with no sign of civilization or hope of imminent rescue. That may sound like Gilligan's Island meets Survivor, but Lost kept viewers tuning in every Wednesday night--and spending the rest of the week speculating on Web sites--with some irresistible hooks (not to mention the beautiful women). First, there's a huge ensemble cast of no fewer than 14 regular characters, and each episode fills in some of the back story on one of them. There's a doctor; an Iraqi soldier; a has-been rock star; a fugitive from justice; a self-absorbed young woman and her brother; a lottery winner; a father and son; a Korean couple; a pregnant woman; and others. Second, there's a host of unanswered questions: What is the mysterious beast that lurks in the jungle? Why do polar bears and wild boars live there? Why has a woman been transmitting an SOS message in French from somewhere on the island for the last 16 years? Why do impossible wishes seem to come true? Are they really on a physical island, or somewhere else? What is the significance of the recurring set of numbers? And will Kate ever give up her bad-boy fixation and hook up with Jack? CLOSED Monk - Season 1

Season 1 of the funny and smart show Monk.

The ranks of fictional genius gumshoes were joined by former San Francisco detective Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) in the summer of 2002, and he is indeed a welcome addition. Cable channel USA Network introduced Monk, a bright comedy-drama series about an obsessive-compulsive sleuth drummed out of police work following the murder of his wife and a subsequent spike in his overwhelming neuroses. Once a rising star in the homicide department, the twitchy savant is still valuable to Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), who reluctantly calls on Monk to solve difficult, high-profile murders of judges, billionaires, police informants, and famous attorneys. Monk's talent for finding clues and seeing the big picture in criminal investigations makes him a force to reckon with, but his many phobias (germs, heights, asymmetry, and much, much else) aggravate Stottlemeyer and make Monk completely dependent on a long-suffering assistant, Sharona (Bitty Schram), a single mom who functions as Dr. Watson to Monk's Sherlock Holmes. Silent Auction

We’re holding a silent auction for a member and her DH who was recently shot in the line of duty. He is expected to make a full recovery. Thank goodness!

Many, many members have expressed a desire to help out in some way. If you’d like to help out by donating an item for the auction, please email Helen at hallienoves@gmail.com with a short description and at least one photo of the item. Please email Helen by Saturday, June 12. The auction will begin Monday morning, June 14, on the NPWA blog, npwablog.blogspot.com. Look for more information soon and please pass the word about the auction!

The details...
What kind of items can be donated?
Any new or gently used item that you would consider giving as a gift to a loved one. Examples include, but are not limited to: quilts, aprons, hand-made crafts, art, stationery, books, jewelry, gift cards etc.

How Donating Works
Once you've chosen something for participants to bid on, take a picture of the item(s). You keep the donation at this point. After emailing me, hallienoves@gmail.com, the pictures, I will post them on the auction site for people to bid on. The winning bidder will email me with a receipt of their payment to NPWA. Then I will put the bidder in contact with you so you may ship your donation to him/her.

Is My Donation Tax Deductible?
Yes! I will provide you with a donation receipt you may keep for tax purposes. You may include the value of your donation, as well as cost of shipping to the buyer.

Better Late than Never!

I'm finally posting MY project from National Police Week. I made a load of goodies for DH to take to the precinct.

My patented awesome cupcakes. With blue frosting, of course.

Simple trail mix. I split it into snack baggies and put them all back in the turkey pan and covered it. It was still warm and awesome by the time it made it to the precinct.

Pigs in a Blanket, or as T calls them "undercover cops!"

I'm guessing the goodies went over well, since absolutely not of them made it home. And for my own personal hero: a police mug I came across in the Cracker Barrel store, complete with utility belt.

I also pulled together seven shopping bags of gently used clothes to donate to Goodwill - a small donation, but every bit helps the community we live in. I hope all of your police week projects were a success!

Accepting the challenge!

A very new member of NPWA accepted the challenge for doing something nice to say "thank you" to our law enforcement. Here is what Beckylinm did:

I accepted the challenge and made some brownies for my husband's and my city pd. After an 11 hour day, I was struggling a bit, but it felt good to do it.

Great job! Thank you for participating. I'm sure the department loved it!

Kimber49 contributes for Police Week

Another member of NPWA, Kimber49, had this to say about what she is doing for National Police Week:

I'm getting coffee gift cards for DH's squad. Historically, a few of the wives have provided
food to the department on Wednesday of police week.

AgentWife contributes to Police Week

One of the NPWA wives, AgentWife, had the following to say about what she is doing for National Police Week:

I am making pretty cupcakes to send with DH to work. I'm just doing a sky blue type frosting so it doesn't taste bitter. I'll post pics of my pretty cupcakes! It will be my first attempt with a couple of the tips I'll be using.

Thanks AgentWife!

Wreath Goal Met AGAIN!

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our memorial wreath fund!

We have me our RAISED goal of $100, and we have actually raised an extra $10 that will go towards other projects in the coming year.

If you would still like to donate, you still can! Donations are always welcome, and if no current projects are specified, donation are used towards the NPWA HUGS program as well as funding new, upcoming projects.

Again, thanks to all who donated!

Wreath Goal Met!

Thanks to everyone who supported us in our fund-raising effort toward purchasing a memorial wreath for the National Police Week Memorial. We have already met our $75 goal, and so we have raised our goal to $100 to possibly purchase a larger wreath or (should we not make that) fund future projects.

Please keep giving. Every dollar you send to NPWA is put towards our philanthropic projects, so every penny counts!

NPWA will sponsor a wreath to be placed at the Memorial during National Police Week 2010 in May. The cost of the wreath is $75.00. You can help honor America's fallen law enforcement heroes by making a donation towards the purchase of a wreath.

If you would like to contribute, please click the link in the sidebar under "Donate to NPWA" to be directed to our donation site. Please specify that your donation is for the Memorial Wreath, and if you are a member of NPWA also specify your member name.

Any amount will help us reach our goal. Donations for the Memorial Wreath must be provided before May 1st, but all donations above and beyond are welcome. You can keep up with our donation progress by watching the 2010 Memorial Wreath Donation tracker in the sidebar.
